One of the biggest challenges of the future energy grid is matching the time of consumption with the production of green energy. As part of the "Energiewende" - Germany’s policyto increasethe share of renewables and phase out nuclear power, grid stabilization and load balancing are key objectives. Information about current and future energy supply and the energy mix is crucial to enable people to contribute to grid stability. It is for this reason that Bayernwerk partnered with intive to create the ökoHeld App, which provides real-time data and intelligent forecasts to inform users transparently about the production of regional green electricity.
The Bayernwerk ökoHeld app provides a summary of the different types of energy sources available, regional forecast for the current day, weather conditions, along with a forecast for the next three days for your region. In addition, it facilitates the planning of activities with suggestions for energy savings throughout the day. The app also tracks the record of CO2 savings per neighborhood and region. As users receive notifications on when it is most environmentally friendly to use energy, they can save CO2 emissions and become eco heroes for their community.
In summer 2021, Bayernwerk joined forces with intive. After a three-week discovery phase during which the concept was challenged and improved, the international intive team developed a fully integrated flutter app with high performance. A seamless release for Android and iOS was made possible with close collaboration with the client in an agile environment. The team of experts based in Poland, Germany and Ukraine accompanied Bayernwerk across the product life cycle, from the development to production and testing. Firebase was used for the mobile development, and the middleware was implemented using Azure Functions & Cosmos DB.
Releasing a people-centric digital tool that allows people tohave a better understanding of their energy consumptions waspossible thanks to the close collaboration, trust, and positiveenergy from both partners. Together intive and Bayernwerk were able to shape a perfect solution that brings both high customer satisfaction and business value."We are grateful for intive’s professional support. Thanks to the expertise, passion and commitment of intive’s team, we were able to build and validate a powerful app with a very shorttime-to-market. We are glad to say that together we are bringing the energy transition across Germany to the next level,” said Fisnik Musai, Product Owner at Bayernwerk Netz GmbH.
